Thanks to Pen & Sword Books who kindly provided this book for review and my apologies to my postman who had to deliver it!
This book is a beast, over 400 high gloss A4 pages crammed inside this hardback edition with over 1000 images in black and white and colour to pore over. However it is so much more than something nice to look at.
The detail is something to marvel over. Not only does it cover all 4 assaults for Monte Cassino, designed to breach the Winter Line allowing an advance on Rome in 1944 during the Second Word War but it also covers the lead up to the first battle and the fall out from the consequent battles.
Alongside the Then and Now pictures we have maps, overlays, order of battle infographics and many more valuable pieces of information that really help you understand the Italian Campaign and this series of battles in a clear and concise manner.
I am a huge fan of the Then and Now series and in my other role as a tour manager at Battle Guide Virtual Tours, tomes like this are invaluable for assistance in actually building tours as it pinpoints locations today where significant events happened in the past. An absolute blessing in my line of work.
Now all of this greatness doesnt come cheap and the book has an RRP of £50 however if you visit the link below you will pick it up for approx £35.00.
